We kicked off this month with an exciting, over-the-top party for a large hotel management group. Guests were invited to the historic Georgia Freight Depot for an evening of jazz n’ juleps, honey suckles n’ highballs, and bluegrass n’ BBQ. Juxtaposing classic Southern charm with modern urban beats, this event was a celebration of Atlanta.
A jazz quintet, costumed southern greeters, and pimento flavored popcorn welcomed guests to this modern Southern affair. The venue’s porch and outdoor space, accented with vintage Southern styling, provided the first stop for guests. Party goers dined on three styles of BBQ and used clothespin ballots to vote on their favorite. The band Love Canon played popular 80’s hits with a bluegrass twist as guests enjoyed hand-rolled cigars in a comfortable outdoor smoking lounge. A customized living moss wall in the venue’s front lobby transformed the space into a Southern garden party. Costumed train conductors welcomed guests aboard for this extravagant affair. Elaborate drapery, comfortable traditional-style lounge groupings, and an over-the-top cherry blossom floral arrangement created a sleek blues lounge. Iconic blues singer Francine Reed gave an intimate performance. A clear top tent on the patio added another layer to this romantic southern garden party.
The venue’s Freight Room really captured the event’s theme and highlighted the juxtaposition of old and new South. As guests entered the main room, they were greeted with an 18-foot cherry laurel tree complete with swinging trapeze artists. As guests moved through the room, the romantic Southern styling transitioned into a chic modern vibe. Large hoops surrounding chandeliers, wire spheres, and hanging crystals created a dynamic ceiling treatment. Sleek white and chrome furniture, glowing bars and food stations, and 8′ tall DJ risers completed this hip Southern look. Guests were really amazed as a 25 person flash mob erupted in the party, dancing to Quad City DJ’s “C’mon ‘N Ride It.” Immediately after the dance, guests got a second surprise as desserts descended from the ceiling on two 20′ trusses. A DJ scratch-off and high energy performance from Party Nation kept guests dancing well into the evening.
