WM Events Puts The LIFE Into Party Decor!
Remember that stunning rehearsal dinner we planned a few years ago? Well, here is the bigger and badder corporate version of the living communal table. Staged in the Plaza Ballroom of the Westin Peachtree Plaza, this eco-statement was a popular focal point for attendees. Thanks so much to Patrick Williams for his lovely photos of the event. Bringing the Hanging Gardens Inside
Remember how much we loved all those vertical gardens from a while back? Well, here is a our new obsession via Hungarian designer, Gabriella Asztalos. Babylon doesn’t have a thing on these hanging gardens! These floating, pill-shaped baskets may very well be the next wonder of the world. Clearly, we’re obsessed with new and interesting ways to display our green friends. What other objects could you showcase in these canisters?

WM Events and Peachtree Tents & Events Win at NACE Design Trends
Congratulations to the Peachtree Tents and Events Table Top at the NACE Design Trends competition and the Bridal Extravaganza. Held at 200 Peachtree this past Sunday and Monday, the event was a major success. We partnered with Peachtree Tents and Events, Dwayne Bass with his innovative Rubblox furniture, Christian Ruffin at One Stop Productions, and Dee Lane Eades at Graceful Tables to make a lively table covered in moss, succulents, ferns, and other greenery. Mixing a stainless steel table, an antique barn door, rubber furniture, and lots of living plants was an inventive twist that added visual and textural interest. Tell us what you think in the comments below!

Garden Week: Plantable Seed Paper
Plantable paper is a type of eco-friendly paper made from recycled materials with seeds actually lodged in the fiber of the paper. How it works: after planting the paper in your vessel or the ground itself, the seeds will sprout while the paper degrades into the soil. So at the end of the day, you’ve got your flowers, herbs or vegetables without any waste. Companies like Botanical PaperWorks create wonderful solutions to your plantable paper needs. They were kind enough to let us use their pictures below.
Papermakers have been producing paper including seeds in the United States since as far back as 1941, but international papermakers have practiced seed inclusion in paper for centuries. Commonly used for stationery, invitations, and decorative wraps, sprouting seed paper has enjoyed a resurgence of popularity in the United States recently. Seed paper has traditionally been handmade in smaller batches and is often made-to-order for clients. A wide variety of flower, vegetable, and tree seeds can also be used in seed paper for decorative effect.
We love it, of course, because of the eco-friendliness and design possibilities. A orange carrot-shaped card filled with carrot seeds, anyone? Or what about including seeds from the flowers in your bouquet in the thank you card after your wedding? Readers, can you think of a great way to use seed paper at your next event? Garden Week at WM Events: SeedBallz
We’re kicking off Garden Week to celebrate all things horticulture at WM Events. And first up on the agenda is a fun and quirky alternative to a plain packets of seeds from Home Depot: SeedBallz. These spheres are packed with a blend of rich organic humus, a whole packet of seeds, and clay to offer you a new way to grow wildflowers and herbs. What’s even better is that the company has partnered with developmentally disabled workers and created an innovative and therapeutic opportunity for their employees.
Many of the SeedBallz include a variety of seeds in one ball; some annual, some perennial. They don’t need to be thinned, and will come back once they are established and allowed to re-seed. These SeedBallz, which come in 15 varieties, are perfect for producing clusters of flowers and herbs in one area. The basil mix, for example has 4 different varieties that are sure to add some spice to your cooking.
A great branding scheme, a noble business plan, and an innovative product make SeedBallz an excellent party favor.

Cultivating Mushrooms Indoors and Out
A trend gaining momentum in gardening and cuisine these days is ready-to-grow fungus kits. The entire kingdom can basically be grown in your backyard or on your counter top. With companies like Fungi Perfecti, Earth’s Tongue, and GMushrooms, growing your own fungi has never been easier- you basically just add water! You can buy one of these Mushroom Culitivation Kits which range from $18 to $40, depending on the variety and size. You can even recycle and compost the indoor kits because they grow in organic substrates like wood chips or sawdust. So the next time you need the perfect ingredient for your favorite recipe, or the cure for cancer, (or just want to look at something pretty) pick that fungi out of the ground and dig in!

The Chelsea Garden Party Is Royally Amazing!
The Royal Horticulture Society really knows how to throw a garden party! The Chelsea Flower Show, an annual event is held at the Royal Hospital Chelsea and party of London’s summer social season, began on Tuesday and ends on Saturday.
Celebrating the 149th anniversary of the show, the designers this year have really pushed the envelope creating a replica of a Thai Temple using over 100,000 blooms that took 800 people 33 days to complete! Hanging and vertical gardens made an appearance as well as Dame Helen Mirren who unveiled a new hybrid Nepenthes named in her honor.
The sculptures, flowers, and awards make the Chelsea Flowers Show a must-see. Add it to your bucket list!

Events Under The Microscope – Oasis Foam
Today we’re trading in our Prada sunglasses for laboratory goggles- you know, for that scientific look! Planning parties that have that unmistakable wow factor rely on a lot of physics, chemistry, and biology. This is the first post in a series on the science behind planning parties, and today we’re studying oasis!

Created by Smithers-Oasis in 1954, floral foam is a spongy, green, water-absorbing foam that provides support and nutrients for live floral arranging. Readily available at craft and gardening stores everywhere, it usually comes in simple shapes like bricks or spheres, but can be easily carved into different configurations depending on the usage. Oasis is biologically structured very much like real flowers in that it has capillaries that pull water to the surface and upwards. This action is crucial for plants and flowers to receive the nutrients they need, and is more effective than submersing the stems in water alone. For example, a stem inserted 1″ into a 4″ piece of floral foam is actually increasing the length of the stem by 3″. Amazingly, one brick can hold a full 2 quarts or more than 40 times its weight in water!
However, there are also environmental factors one should take into consideration before using oasis. Always be conscious of not wasting the floral foam, because it is not easily reusable and can contain damaging chemicals. If you can, find ways to avoid using items like oasis that are tossed out after an event, adding to the landfill. At our fabulous organic wedding in Boulder, we arranged florals in vintage silver containers and used floral tape rather than synthetic foam. Make your party the oasis!
And now for your pop quiz- kidding! Leave comments in the section below, or link to pictures of your awesome floral arrangements!
