Strange Beauty inspiring colors for Fall party designs
Just a few days into September and I am already thinking about fall colors and event design schemes for my Autumn line up. These little spores caught my eye while gardening the other day.
No matter if you call them mushrooms, toad stools or fungi, hopefully you can appreciate the sublime beauty of these little spores.
I captured these two lovely specimens in my shade garden. Their rich coloration and sublte texture is truly inspiring when I begin to think of fall table designs. Imagine a rich mushroom silk table linen graced with ivory toned floral and cream-”mini” linen napkins? Or what if there was an amporphic chandelier with “gills” of silk?
If the mushroom and cream color scheme is good enough for mother nature it is good enough for me.

Blossom Buddies ~ Flowers in my garden
The garden that I share with my mother is truly a joy. Each flower is like a jewel in natures treasure chest. It amazes me how beautiful the flowers of the vegetables and that they produce their edible fruits. The garden plants are of course spectacular too bursting with brillance throughout the growing season. As with great event design the garden offers suprises and delights to its guest amazement. It is this garden which is inspires my wedding design and event designs.
Here are just a few pics from my garden this season.

Inspiration: C.S.I. Themed Bat Mitzvah
C.S.I. the iconic television series presents a variety of fun, interesting motifs to work with. The following is evidence of the many directions this investigative party theme can go. The event for my client was dubbed L.S.I (Lily Shelanski Investigates) to honor our curious honoree. We used many of these ideas in the event design but some did not make the cut.
Stay tuned for the upcoming post of the actual event.
These vignettes were presented to represent all of the cities of C.S.I.
The proposed stage set would incorporate truss, lucite and bold graphics.
Guest seating will be an interactive experience using invisible ink and black light to solve the mystery of where to sit.
The following clip is potential content for the video screens.
Each image below provided inspiration for different elements of the event.

WM Events Styling: Photo Shoot with Lou Freeman Photography
When my friend Lou Freeman called and asked me to style a photo for her I was totally psyched!
The project for a catalog shoot would incorporate a tablescape and runway which the models will be super imposed in- reminiscent of Dries Van Noten’s Spring 2005 show . We did the shoot in Eventscapes warhouse/showroom which presented the set.
WM Events styled the set incorporating a party or prom design. This was the perfect project WM Events since we are experts with design and have great resources.

Garden Update: The Bounty Begins
Our garden this year is bearing nicely, continuing the amazing results from last year. My mother has harvested easily 25 – 30 lbs so far, including yellow squash, eggplant, cucumbers, watermelons, and more. It has been a very busy and productive growing season so far. Eating ffresh grown vegetables from our garden is such a luxury. It really inspires me to be a bit greener in other aspects of my life too. Combining composting, recycling and gardening I figure my family is offseting a considerable about of carbon, saving money and eating really healthy.
Stay tuned for updates through the season.
With so much more still to produce, we are going to have a huge harvest all season long.

Inspiration: Green Wedding Design
I am in the process of planning a wedding on an organic farm in Boulder, CO.
To prepare for this exciting event I recently went to a dinner with my client Courtney. Meadow Lark hosts a series of dinners at surronding participating farms.Hosted at Frog Belly Organic Farm an up and coming bio-dynamic farm nesteled in the foothills north of Boulder offers local free range meats, raw dairy and organic vegtables.
After a very informative tour of the property we were seated at a long farm table next to a pasture of frolicking goats.
The dinner was served and presented from a converted school bus accompanied by a large grill. One long table sat all 40 guests for this fresh multi-course journey. The Menu included fresh baked pita warmed on the grill with hummus, dolmades of swiss chard and brown rice with walnut pesto.
The table was set with crisp natural linen cloths and an array of re-used accesories including wine bottle water carafes and glasses.Vintage cutlery was beautifully complimented with the eccentrically matched china. This experience gave me a clear understanding of what it will take to design a wonderful wedding on a farm for my client. I learned a few things we will definately strive for and for sure a few things we will avoid.
Stay tuned for Courtney & Chuck’s wedding late this summer!

“Food and Fashion” A Showroom Design for Affairs to Remember Caterers, Atlanta, GA
Colors, patterns and textures in food and fashion run parallel. After doing my homework, I conceived the showroom at Affairs to Remember to showcase this correlation, highlighting the resemblances. One corner displayed various silhouettes, another presented Organic/Eco/Vintage themes, and another textures. Additionally, I included ethnic motifs and their influence in food and fashion.
And let’s not forget our favorite mannequin dressed to impress with her edible ensemble. You can see the construction process here in our previous blog. I could have won Project Runway with this design!
