Weekend in Review- Midtown Pop Up Store
This weekend on the Peachtree Street’s Midtown Mile, the Midtown Pop Up Store was hoppin. Live music, art, entertainment, kids’ activities, restaurant specials, street food, pop up shops and trunk shows lined the streets for a fun and festive weekend. Our favorite warm weather treat, King of Pops, was on the spot with just the thing to cool you off in the 92 degree heat. The stores had everything from gifts for dad, jewelry, kids clothes, on the spot monogramming, and housewares. However, the decoration could have been a little more cohesive- the perfect job for WM Events. Check out the pictures below and stay in the loop about the next one that pops up!

Cultivating Mushrooms Indoors and Out
A trend gaining momentum in gardening and cuisine these days is ready-to-grow fungus kits. The entire kingdom can basically be grown in your backyard or on your counter top. With companies like Fungi Perfecti, Earth’s Tongue, and GMushrooms, growing your own fungi has never been easier- you basically just add water! You can buy one of these Mushroom Culitivation Kits which range from $18 to $40, depending on the variety and size. You can even recycle and compost the indoor kits because they grow in organic substrates like wood chips or sawdust. So the next time you need the perfect ingredient for your favorite recipe, or the cure for cancer, (or just want to look at something pretty) pick that fungi out of the ground and dig in!

WM Events Top 10 Atlanta, Georgia Venues
Splitting my time planning events and coordinating weddings between Atlanta and Denver is great. I have double the resources, vendors, and party tricks. This week we’re taking you on a city tour of the best venues in each metropolitan area.
I love these arenas because they all provide different amenities, specifications, and opportunities for a variety of events. For example, using a venues’ in-house catering company, attaching things to the walls, or difficult parking arrangements. WM Events knows the ins and outs and can make your planning process much smoother. The trick is to match perfectly the venue with the event, and with so many fabulous venues in each city, it’s not usually a difficult task. Here is our top 10 list for Atlanta. Have you ever planned or been to an event at one of these locations? How did it go?

The Chelsea Garden Party Is Royally Amazing!
The Royal Horticulture Society really knows how to throw a garden party! The Chelsea Flower Show, an annual event is held at the Royal Hospital Chelsea and party of London’s summer social season, began on Tuesday and ends on Saturday.
Celebrating the 149th anniversary of the show, the designers this year have really pushed the envelope creating a replica of a Thai Temple using over 100,000 blooms that took 800 people 33 days to complete! Hanging and vertical gardens made an appearance as well as Dame Helen Mirren who unveiled a new hybrid Nepenthes named in her honor.
The sculptures, flowers, and awards make the Chelsea Flowers Show a must-see. Add it to your bucket list!

Events Under The Microscope – Oasis Foam
Today we’re trading in our Prada sunglasses for laboratory goggles- you know, for that scientific look! Planning parties that have that unmistakable wow factor rely on a lot of physics, chemistry, and biology. This is the first post in a series on the science behind planning parties, and today we’re studying oasis!

Created by Smithers-Oasis in 1954, floral foam is a spongy, green, water-absorbing foam that provides support and nutrients for live floral arranging. Readily available at craft and gardening stores everywhere, it usually comes in simple shapes like bricks or spheres, but can be easily carved into different configurations depending on the usage. Oasis is biologically structured very much like real flowers in that it has capillaries that pull water to the surface and upwards. This action is crucial for plants and flowers to receive the nutrients they need, and is more effective than submersing the stems in water alone. For example, a stem inserted 1″ into a 4″ piece of floral foam is actually increasing the length of the stem by 3″. Amazingly, one brick can hold a full 2 quarts or more than 40 times its weight in water!
However, there are also environmental factors one should take into consideration before using oasis. Always be conscious of not wasting the floral foam, because it is not easily reusable and can contain damaging chemicals. If you can, find ways to avoid using items like oasis that are tossed out after an event, adding to the landfill. At our fabulous organic wedding in Boulder, we arranged florals in vintage silver containers and used floral tape rather than synthetic foam. Make your party the oasis!
And now for your pop quiz- kidding! Leave comments in the section below, or link to pictures of your awesome floral arrangements!

Black and White and Fabulous All Over
Now that you’ve seen all the fun finds in the showroom we designed at Affairs to Remember, we’re happy to bring you the overall pictures. This quarter, I decided on a black and white theme for a classic look that really transformed the space. Using ample amounts of sheer fabric from Event Drapery, I was able to frame the room in the theme. Black and white ribbon hung from the ceiling draws the eye upward and makes the room look larger than it really is. Utilizing this vertical space is essential to making the room feel complete. Tell us what you think in the comments below!

Step and Repeat and Repeat and Repeat
Here at WM Events, we plan and coordinate a lot of events that require Step and Repeats. They are perfect for corporate and social events alike because they are completely customizable and add that extra spark to any party entrance. Nothing makes guests feel more like movie stars than having their picture taken on a red carpet!
Specifically, Step and Repeats are backdrops that display sponsor logos and event graphics for photographic purposes. Because the sponsor’s interests are often paramount to the event, these images are usually arranged in a diagonally alternating pattern so that they can be seen despite the person posing in front of the display. They can be made from a variety of materials like vinyl or gator-board, depending on the needs of the event. Also, printers can have very specific requirements, so it’s best to let a professional help you design your Step and Repeat
Below are photos of a few S&R’s we have done over the past year. Call us to plan your next red carpet event!

The Event: Kylie Minogue In Concert!
This past weekend my friends and I went to the Fabulous Fox Theater to see Kylie Minogue in concert. This show was not on my radar at all, but will be a memory for many years to come.
While many pop stars have interesting shows and sets, this one was spectacular. For starters, the cast of around 20 – 30 dancers were all choreographed and styled perfectly within every scene (of which I counted about 12!). A mix of classical architecture along with a high tech LED wall established the theme of each set change. The high energy show ended with a spectacular finale ala Esther Williams. The homage to the swimming great employed synchronized visuals, spectacular costuming and, of course, Kylie ascending upon a giant tiered platform.
Below are some pictures of the event- including one of me with some of the dancers!
